The work of purifying the heart.
Begin with sincerity. Reflect on what draws your heart towards Allah, and what distracts it from Him.
Purification is a continuing process of self-examination, repentance, remembrance, and improving our conduct. It asks us to pay attention to both our inner state and our outward actions.
Return to your intention
Before worship, work, or helping someone, pause and ask why you are doing it. Renew your intention when you notice a desire for praise or recognition.
Practise honest self-reflection
Notice anger, envy, pride, and resentment without making excuses for them. Reflect on how they affect your speech and behaviour, and choose a better response.
Turn back and make amends
Make space for repentance. Where you have hurt someone, take responsibility and seek to repair the harm. Spiritual reflection should lead to practical change.
Let good character become the measure
Look for patience in difficult moments, honesty when it costs something, and gentleness towards people who cannot benefit you. Bring this work into family life, friendships, and service.
A moment of reflection
At the end of the day, ask: What was my intention? Where did I act with kindness? What do I need to put right tomorrow?
